Introduction
The v4 printer driver model is a refinement of the existing v3 printer driver model, and it was designed to improve driver development, reduce IT management costs, and support new scenarios. The v4 print driver model continues to support many familiar technologies like XPSDrv, GPD, PPD, Autoconfiguration, and Bidi. The v4 print driver model also supports several new extensibility points.
The v4 print driver model is also optimized for several new scenarios including the following:

The following is a high-level representation of a v4 print driver. With the exception of the rendering filters and user interface applications, all the other functional blocks in the diagram are implemented by Microsoft. Advanced accounting 11e solution manual. V4 print drivers rely heavily on data files and JavaScript for extensibility. This section discusses the following aspects of the v4 printer driver:
The V3 and V4 X-GPD are truly universal print drivers compatible with Xerox and other manufacturers’ products, but the driver’s functionality varies by product model.

All Xerox and non-Xerox devices that can process industry standard Postscript and PCL commands are compatible with these drivers in the “Basic Printing Mode”. The V3 X-GPD allows for configuring “Xerox WorkCentre Device” or “Xerox FreeFlow Device” modes to ensure that additional printer capabilities are available.
The V4 X-GPD does not support FreeFlow devices but does offer two enhanced fallback modes that support the common features of most office products, these fallback modes can be selected when the driver does not automatically recognize the device: “Xerox Enhanced Mode – Color” and “Xerox Enhanced Mode – Black & White”.
